Dardanelle. Situated on the Arkansas River and on the D & R Railroad in Yell County, of which it is a district judicial seat, 5 southwest of Russellville, and 80 northwest of Little Rock. Courts are also held in Danville. It was settled in 1842, and has 5 churches, good schools, 2 banks, water works, special and general stores and 2 weekly newspapers, the Arkansas Valley Pilot and Dardanelle Post-Dispatch. Coal is mined in the vicinity. Ships cotton, fruit, livestock, produce, etc. Daily mail hack to Danville and Mount Nebo. Population, 2500. Telephones, Western Union Exp., Pacific. H.M.
